Although Kyle still experienced pain today, there was less time for him to think about it. The therapists discussed with me the idea that maybe not all of his screaming is coming from pain, but may come from frustration, anxiety or even over stimulation. (Carolyn, your thoughts exactly!)
Thanks to everyone for the encouraging words on my "one step back" day. I am thankful and fortunate that they are few and far between.
Here are more highlights of last week's therapies, which capture fun in the Secret Garden with a barbecue and games, but which also capture the trials and tribulations of Kyle's daily struggles.
If at first you don't succeed...... |
..........try, try, again. |
Kyle's left arm is still immobile. Cheryl and Jasmine use careful planning to help alleviate Kyle's pains. |
Kyle is asked to identify objects.
It is so difficult for Kyle to sit up straight.
Jasmine decides a mirror might do the trick.
Kyle is one very determined young man and works very hard for his therapists.
A special outing was held in the Secret Garden on Friday.... a barbecue and games.
Greg assisted Kyle in a game of Corn Hole. Alex said Corn Hole is taken veeery seriously at UVA. Judging by the look on Kyle's face, I don't think this is top on the list of his extreme sports.
It became much too hot for Kyle outside, so we headed in for a break, and let Kyle relax in front of the fish tank.
Everywhere you look, the walls are overflowing with inspirational words, photos and beautiful artwork.
A game of Uno was better suited to Kyle. It's been one of our favorite games since the boys were little. I enjoyed watching a little friendly competition between brothers.
