Planes, Games, And Smiles

The benefits of working for an airline are tremendous, but flying standby has it's challenges.

Poor Alex waited 5 hours last night for his delayed flight, not knowing of course if he would even get on, only to have it cancel around 10:30 pm.  Greg had already gone to sleep in the Shepard Center housing.   I still sleep in Kyle's room, and somehow I missed Alex's call and text that he needed a ride back.

What a surprise when at midnight, in walks Alex to Kyle's room.  The tired, wet, young man resorted to taking MARTA (Atlanta's metro) to the Performing Arts Center and walking the two rainy miles back to Shepard.  What caught my attention was how little he was bothered by it.  It's easy to put things into perspective once you've experienced Shepard Center.

Greg and Alex provided me with much needed relief while they were here.  It is appreciated more than they know.  Sometimes it's easy to forget to say....     "Thank you, Greg and Alex."

Game Time

Kyle continues to amaze us.  To such an extent, that at times he leaves us stopped in our tracks, with our mouths hanging open.

Alex was on on his laptop, when suddenly Kyle leaned forward. showing interest in what Alex was doing.  "Do you want to try, Kyle?"  Kyle nodded his head yes, so Alex placed his laptop on Kyle's lap.

What Kyle did next was something soooooo unexpected........

Yes, that is Candy Crush, and he knew exactly what he was doing!

We passed this info on to Cheryl, who showed us some apps on her IPad.
e
There's an app to match nearly any cognitive rehab goal.

Cheryl also needs to test Kyle with orientation type questions and basic knowledge. Her IPad helps Kyle to answer.

That's Our Kyle  :)

In typical Kyle style, he teased Cheryl with some of his answers.  That familiar, funny personality was emerging.  It had me thinking back on the many endearing stories told to me, by friends and teachers who visited, at Inova ICU,

The expressions on everyone's faces below, tell the story.

Alex and Cheryl's smiles.
Greg's "look" and Cheryl's smile.

And the most beautiful smile from Kyle, knowing that he made us laugh!

“If you wish to glimpse inside a human soul and get to know a man, don't bother analyzing his ways of being silent, of talking, of weeping, of seeing how much he is moved by noble ideas; you will get better results if you just watch him laugh. If he laughs well, he's a good man.”
